***Important Information***
“Phishing” is a term that is often used in the information technology field in regards to fraudulent activity. What happens is you receive a text message, email, or phone call that requests you to provide financial information, in an effort to steal your identity or funds. These methods, used by criminals, are only successful by continually sending out several thousand requests in an effort to find one person that provides the necessary information.
Recently, we’ve had an increase in calls from members who have received text messages from someone who claims to be calling you on behalf of CMCCU regarding unusual activity on your account. They may ask you to supply your full debit card number and possibly other personal information to “verify your identity.” Once these criminals gain this information, they will use it to run fraudulent transactions using your debit card number.
Please note that Central Macomb Community Credit Union will never initiate a text message or phone call in which we ask you for your full debit card number. We do utilize a third party fraud protection company who monitors our members’ debit card transactions and will contact you if they notice unusual transactions. Again, this company will only request information such as the last few transactions you’ve made and will never ask you to supply a full card number.
As criminals become smarter and more efficient, we as consumers need to be extra cautious when providing personal information over the phone or via email. If you are ever in doubt as to the legitimacy of a phone call, please hang up before supplying any personal information and contact the credit union directly. We will be more than happy to assist you.

Notice of Changes in Temporary NCUA Insurance Coverage for Transaction Accounts
All funds in a "non-interest bearing transaction account" are insured in full by the National Credit Union Administration through December 31, 2012. This temporary unlimited coverage is an addition to, and separate from, the coverate of at least $250, 000 available to members under the NCUA's general share insurance rules.
The term "non-interest bearing transaction account" includes a traditional share draft account (or demand deposit account) on which the insured credit union pays no interest or dividend. It does not include any transaction account that may earn interest or dividends, a negotiable order of withdrawal (NOW) account, money-market deposit account, and Interest on Lawyers Trust Account (IOLTA), even if shares may be drawn on the account.
